Festival: 2016

I am a practicing artist and have a small studio based in the town of Wirksworth in the Derbyshire dales.

I am interested in a sense of place (inspired by my local and global travels), so my work focusses on the natural world, landscapes, rocks and trees as well as found objects and structures. Through this depiction of ‘Place’, I explore mortality, life and the struggle between the natural and built environment.

The process of making is as important to me as the finished work so I use ink sketches and photography as preparatory studies before moving to paint. I work in acrylic paint, charcoal, pastels and printing or a combination of these, often abstract in form and using layers and texture to build a tangible landscape of colour.
