textiles

Festival: 2016

My work as a textile artist is strongly influenced by my first career in museums. I often use intensely personal subjects or historical themes inspired by people, objects and places. I work mainly with old cloth which I combine with hand stitch, natural dye, quilting, appliqué and mixed media to create subtle and emotive pieces. This series of work is inspired by my Grandad’s tool collection and celebrates makers and creators using tools in all aspects of life. Tools designs are stitched onto domestic textiles and the tools themselves are altered, embellished and framed.
