Art & Architecture Trail
The big opening weekend when art takes over the town!
Wirksworth’s much-loved mix of art, music and socialising. Art from over 100 artists is at its most affordable and enticing in settings from public spaces to the quirkiest cottage interiors.
Be entertained throughout the weekend by Wirksworth’s free street music and performance programme (check posters around town for details). There’s something to see at every corner and at every twist and turn of the streets of this most delightful and historic market town. Bring your walking shoes to explore every corner, then take a break and meet friends to eat and drink at the towns pubs and cafes.
Keep an eye open for Metro-Boulot-Dodo’s Whispers from a Rickshaw. Innovative Leicester-based artists invite two audience members at a time to take a ride and immerse yourself in one of five stories exploring notions of fate, luck and the journeys we take to fulfil our dreams.
Saturday
Entertainment highlights include: St John’s Theatre performing ‘The Parrot’, the BMW Brass Band workshop and performance in the Memorial Gardens 2-4pm.
Felt-maker Denise Stanton, local choreographer Debi Hedderwick and musician Tullis Rennie create a collaborative performance for the Heritage Centre.
As evening falls, stay on and enjoy acoustic music in pubs and outdoor spaces around town.
Sunday
The town nurtures its deepest roots as the congregation encircles St Mary’s Church for the Clypping Service at 3.00pm.
New this year is the Market Place Mellow Session – a mix of free entertainment and relaxed fun for the whole family. Start at 4.30pm with The Great Shakespearean Workout – fun aerobics to the beat of Shakespeare’s poetry. The evening continues with an informal programme of live music.
