Comedy Night
Lads (and lasses) don’t miss these rising comedy stars! We’ve scoured the country to bring them together for our great Festival comedy session.
Steve Day is a truly unique comedian - warm, witty and engaging whilst dealing with the dilemmas of being a deaf man in a hearing world. His stories of multiple children, wearing a suit and not knowing how words are pronounced will have audiences in raptures, and his uplifting tales of overcoming the obstacles in his path will leave crowds feeling inspired.
A regular voice on Radio 4, he has featured on You and Yours, as a token man on Woman's Hour, and in two radio dramas: All Fingers and Thumbs (with Bill Nighy, whom he was to punch dramatically) and Sound Barriers (with Partricia Routledge and Caroline Quentin, both of whom he was prevented from punching).
Alfie Moore spent 17 years on the beat as a police sergeant, where a keen sense of humour were key to his success and survival. Alfie’s comedy debut was an impulsive last minute entry into a national stand up competition, he finished runner up and he’s been in stand-up ever since. He’s resident compere at the highly rated Otherside comedy clubs in Yorkshire and Newcastle and was at Edinburgh 2009 with his show “The Laughter Police”.
James Cook is a comedian from Birmingham, who with his trademark witty humour, is a star of BRMB radio's weekend breakfast show as well as the popular comedy podcast “News With Jokes”.
Tony Cowards is a quickfire gag merchant (described by the List magazine as a “Pun-osaurus”) whose one-liners and laddish, relaxed storytelling cover a wide spectrum of subjects. Tony’s a prolific writer; his credits include “Watson’s Wind Up” for BBC Radio Scotland, “Newsjack” for BBC7, satirical news website “The Daily Mash” and TV comedian, Mark Watson’s football site, “Back of the Net”. He is also the chief comedy writer for Bristol based Jack FM.
