Opportunities and news of what's happening in 2009-2010

The Festival provides exceptional participation opportunities for a rural town and we want to make sure our whole community has a chance to take part. This year we are putting greater emphasis on developing opportunities to involve our local community and schools.

The Festival’s popular programme of orchestral and choral workshops are running along with a range of activities to involve schools and community in Wirksworth Windows and Key Venues exhibitions.

Young Curators

In 2010, young people will curate a Festival Key Venue for the very first time. Preparation for this project has already begun. We are inviting young people aged 12-18 years to join a group led by artists Sally Lemsford and Sarah Bradnock. They will begin by exploring Festival 2009 and then work through the year developing a whole range of skills. Festival Community Event 2010

During this years Festival we are beginning  to prepare for the Festival’s first large-scale community event in 2010. This is planned to take place over the third weekend next year. An external facilitator will be commissioned to work with all sections of the community to develop a celebration and performance extravaganza to enthrall and delight the whole community.
