Young Curators 2010
Young Curators WeHEARTArt
Young Curators Key Venue
Teaching Pool, Artist, Lucie Stevens
Since last September a group of young people have been meeting with Sally Lemsford and Sarah Bradnock to explore art and curation. They decided they wanted to use the local teaching pool as the venue and created a brief for their chosen artist Lucy Stevens. The pool will transform with two interactive intallations ‘Flock’ by day and ‘Stain’ by night.
Flock
A flock of origami birds are descending on Wirksworth and making a temporary home for themselves at the teaching pool. The triangular building is the perfect location for hundreds of birds to roost; on the roof, crammed along the wooden beams above the pool, hiding in the changing rooms and nesting in lockers.
Stand around the pool or swim with the birds to listen to a dawn chorus, featuring the sounds of flocks of migratory birds returning home after a long journey.
Visitors are invited to make their own origami bird, to launch into the pool and swim with it.
To see, hear and swim amongst the birds visit the pool on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 September between 12.30 – 4.30pm FREE.
Stain
Visit the pool in the evening and watch the colour of the water change, fill with bubbles and reflect the sky and a familiar looking town.
Swim amongst colourful video projections, whilst listening to a collection of sounds recorded in the teaching pool building, including drips, splashes, shivers and underwater pool recordings.
Saturday between 7-9pm FREE
