Mills and Chimneys
Songs of Derbyshire
Friday 10th Sept
Fleet Arts and Derbyshire Cultural and Community Services have worked together to produce ‘Mills and Chimneys’, a series of concerts across Derbyshire which celebrate the county’s historical past through song.
The project has been coordinated by singer-songwriter David Gibb and has brought together a group of musicians from all ages and backgrounds. As well as the concerts all the songs – which were written as part of the ‘Mills and Chimneys’ project - have been recorded for a CD which will be for sale at all of the events.
Earlier in the year writers who are based in Derbyshire were given the opportunity to get involved through a lyric writing competition run by Derbyshire Libraries. The winners of the two age groups - under and over 16 years - have had their winning entries turned into songs, with music specially composed by the musicians and these will also be showcased for the first time at the concerts, as part of the Derbyshire Literature Festival .
All the musicians, who regularly perform locally, have joined
forces to work together as a group for the first time. They areDavid Gibb, Lucy Ward, Julian Butt, Sarah Matthews, Elly Lucas and Mike Smith.
