Application Process Now Open for Wirksworth Festival Trail, Makers Market and Windows 2010

Last year's Trails Weekend saw over 3500 visitors in the picturesque market town of Wirksworth, and artists and makers made sales in excess of £35,000. Apply before 3 May if you would like to take part in this outstanding celebration of art and crafts. _________________________________________________________ ARTIST AND MAKER APPLICATION GUIDELINES – Wirksworth Art & Architecture Trail, Makers Market and Windows 2010 Thematically Wirksworth Festival will continue to explore the relationship between Art & Architecture, and over the next three years we want to explore the nature, meanings and uses (past, present, actual and potential) of buildings, indoor and outdoor space, public and private space. we are particularly interested in work which responds to this theme, though it is not an essential requirement to do so. _________________________________________________________ Art & Architecture Trail 10am-5pm 11 & 12 September 2010 : Exhibition of art in private homes and other buildings in and around the town of Wirksworth Makers Market 10am-5pm 11 & 12 September 2010 : Crafts and applied arts exhibited on stalls in the Town Hall (main hall on 1st floor with lift access) and Memorial Hall Wirksworth Windows throughout the Festival, 10 - 26 September 2010 : Work in shop windows throughout Wirksworth. Artists will create installations in the windows, responding to the premises their work is shown in. We are particularly interested in experimental work, work which is illuminated, lightworks which will enliven the town after dusk, and work which responds to the Art & Architecture theme. _________________________________________________________ TERMS AND CONDITIONS (you can download this as a Word document in the right hand menu) By applying you are accepting the following terms and conditions : We require all artists and makers who have total sales in excess of £100 to pay 10% commission on their total sales. Artists and makers selling less than £100 will not pay commission. APPLICATION FEES There is an application fee of £5 per person for all artists and makers applying. The application fee is not refundable, and is used to cover our costs of processing and management of the trails. If you are applying for more than one category (e.g. Trail and Windows) you should complete two applications and make two online payments. Please note that we ask artists to be with their work on the Trails weekend, so it is not normally possible to apply to both Trail and Makers Market. Those artists selected will be asked to pay a £30 fee towards our costs of staffing, publicity and marketing. There are concessions as follows: £15 for students and graduates in their first year of practice; £25 for an Artist using their own home. All applicants must complete the form below. CHANGES TO PROGRAMME The Festival reserves the right to make any changes as necessary or to reject applications if appropriate. MARKETING MATERIALS The production of Trail Guides, the Makers Market brochure and other marketing depends on the provision of information by the artist in their application. The Festival accepts no liability for any errors or omissions in its advertising and promotional material. INSURANCE The Festival accepts no liability for damage to or loss of work or other equipment either on display or in transit. It is essential that artists take out their own insurance to cover all risks associated with their participation in the Trails. PROPOSALS You should submit your application - our preference is for applications to be sent by email to info@wirksworthfestival.co.uk - as well as completing the form below. Please state clearly in the subject line of your email whether you are applying for the ART & ARCHITECTURE TRAIL, the MAKERS MARKET or the WINDOWS. You should submit the following: > a written proposal (word doc or PDF, maximum 2 sides of A4), with examples of your most recent work, or images of what you are proposing for this year. The proposal should contain four digital (jpeg) images at 72dpi with one image marked for publication (this image should also be supplied at 300dpi for publication). You do not need to submit a written proposal if you are applying for the MAKERS MARKET, just a brief description of your work and four digital (jpeg) images at 72dpi with one image marked for publication (this image should also be supplied at 300dpi for publication). > an up to date CV > a list of the images you have submitted, stating the title, medium and dimensions in centimetres of each piece of work, and which one is intended for publication. DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF PROPOSALS IS MAY 3, 2010. Unfortunately, we will not be able to consider applications received after this date. You will be advised at the end of June if your application has been successful or not. We recommend that you keep a copy of your submitted application. COMMISSION ON SALES
