A further update regarding Coronavirus – Wirksworth Festival will return in 2021.
Following on from our previous message regarding how the Festival was dealing with the Coronavirus crisis, and despite all the exciting plans we were putting in place for this year’s Festival, the Trustees of Wirksworth Festival have come to the incredibly difficult decision to call off this year’s Festival and return in September 2021.
As a charity that is not in receipt of any public funding, we have looked at the rapid escalation of the pandemic, whilst at the same time poring over our financial position and have realised that the expenses we would incur to carry on planning for this year’s Festival, would put the charity in jeopardy. We therefore feel our only option at this terribly uncertain time is to not hold the Festival in 2020.
We know that many of you will be incredibly disappointed to hear this news, we know how much the Festival means to the people of Wirksworth, Derbyshire and further afield – but making this decision now, means we will be able to continue to bring the highlight of many people’s cultural calendar for many years to come. We will be working hard, virtually, to put plans in place so we can all get together to celebrate our wonderful Festival again in 2021.
We will now close the Artist Application form and refund all artists that have already applied to exhibit in 2020.
SUPPORT THE FESTIVAL – BECOME A MEMBER
As you know Wirksworth Festival is a registered charity and due to the Coronavirus situation, we will be unable to generate any income this year. We know that many of you will have many challenges to face at this difficult time, but we would be very grateful if you would think about becoming a Member of the Festival to help make 2021’s Festival as successful as possible – you can read all about membership and join here from as little as £10.
And even though we won’t be able to deliver all of your membership benefits for this year, we will come up with a special way to thank you if you choose to join us.
We plan to have a good look through all the material we’ve amassed over the last 25 years and dig out some key moments to keep you connected through fantastic and happy memories, so keep following us on our social media channels and commenting on and sharing our posts to help make next year’s Festival reach even more people!
If you have any particular highlights and photographs you would like to share from YOUR Wirksworth Festival experiences, we’d love to see them! Please send your best Festival moments and memories firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll share them through our channels.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that is involved in the Festival in any way, large or small – without our ENTIRE community, the Festival simply couldn’t happen.
To all friends, artists, supporters, partners and visitors, we wish you all the very best and above all else, keep safe and well and of course, keep making and enjoying art and culture in any way you can.
Our very best wishes,
The Wirksworth Festival Trustees
