Stella Feldman loved art throughout her life and supported local artists through the Festival and beyond, and so it is most fitting that this prize should be named in her honour.
The People’s Prize for the first Online Art Prize has been named in memory of Stella Feldman by her daughter Naomi.
Stella had been involved with promoting artists since her early working life, and so after moving to Wirksworth in the mid 90s she immediately became involved with the Festival Committee, rapidly becoming a vital and indispensable part of the organisation, particularly the Art and Architecture Trail team.
Stella quickly became known and valued for her inexhaustible flow of ideas, energy, and enthusiasm, for her strong sense of community cohesion that brought people together as equals, and for her unwavering support for both the Festival organisation and for the artists and their work. Stella was particularly involved with the co-ordination and management of the Art and Architecture Trail, bringing her insight and unique perspective to the creative development of the programme, and her experience and energy to the endless practicalities and minutiae involved in the event – even under the inevitable stresses that the weekend brings she never lost her inimitable sense of humour, and loved having her home open as a venue.
Stella loved art throughout her life and supported local artists through the Festival and beyond, and so it is most fitting that this prize should be named in her honour.
