‘Effacement: to rub out, erase, or obliterate (outlines, traces, inscriptions, etc.). to make (oneself) inconspicuous; withdraw (oneself) modestly or shyly.’
Effacements are recent works utilising performative actions to Effaces an extensive collection of portraiture. By scraping away human characteristics with a scalpel blade in each photo crates a hauntingly aggressive document of fragility and the temporality of the human condition. For the Wirksworth Festival the artist wishes to display this new collection of works as a site-specific installation for the first time since beginning the project in 2020.
