My Name is Amberlea. I am an emerging ceramicist based in Sheffield. I travel the world in search of skilled artisan, studying traditional arts from master craftsmen in India and Africa. I have honed my techniques on the wheel to find a personal communicative visual language that transcends cultural and historical barriers of identity and origin.
My most recent body of work consists of deeply carved black vessels. These pieces are a continuing development of translating carved plaster surfaces in to sharp geometric ceramic forms. Flowing freely between the two mediums, i finds ways to incorporate the dying art of Moroccan architectural plaster carvings (Stucco) in to small tactile vessels.
Inspired by walls and floors, I’m on a journey to carve my own Alhambra.
