John Casey
installation

Festival: 2018

The work consists of a number of scratch paintings and furniture pieces that form a chapel installation, the installation is formulated around the scripture and rituals of a fictional sect. There are ceremonies and music pieces conducted from the chapel that pertain to the goddess Nyx and the cosmology that surrounds her. My hope would be to create an atmospheric environment that seems to the observer to be a rediscovered historical site, creating the scene for an engaging narrative concerning a sect that is supposed to have existed in Wirksworth during the 19th century, a group of miners that discovered the goddess of the abyss in the darkness of the mines.
