Kerri Pratt

Festival: 2016

The curious spaces depicted in Kerri’s paintings derive from man-made, industrial and urban landscapes. As the last winner of the Jonathan Vickers Fine Art Award, she reconnected with her home county of Derbyshire, drawing on childhood memories and responding to personal encounters during her arts residency, producing a new series of paintings referencing remnants and traces of our industrial heritage. Often verging on the abstract, the spaces depicted have an ambiguity intended to intrigue the viewer offering an element of familiarity without fully revealing itself. Strong colour and dramatic structural composition are vital components, evoking a strong sense of place.
