Mark Phelan

Festival: 2017

My passion lies in the process of making paintings, mixing oil and spray paint on linen. Each image is a vignette of an old song, movie or personal memory of people and places. Faces appear as apparitions, repeated motifs of watchtowers and national monuments feature in grid like compositions, each painting a fragmented and partial recollection.

The idea of time and fading memory will also feature in new Perspex works. Lightbox illuminated images in colour negative will capture moments in time, leaving a colour positive image trail in the eye, as the viewer looks away from the painting.
