Part of the Red Tape Project

Working with clay, a process-driven medium, I develop meaning throughout the making, decorating, refining and firing sequence, seeking to dissolve my cliched first impressions in pursuit of a more informed/complex interpretation; I value the clay’s own response complementing my intervention. In the Red Tape Project I fire clay bodies to high temperature, and make books, mazes and jewellery in porcelain and red stoneware. I am interested in obsolescence, formality, meanings of binding and repression, social changes, the aesthetic of contrasting soft textile and hard ceramic. I am inspired by working in a group on a rich local heritage.
