Ross Danby

Festival: 2017

My work is as much about the stone as it is about the shapes and forms created. Derbyshire limestone offers a connection with our very origins, with fossils revealing themselves in finished pieces. A variety of textures are typical of my work; tool marks accentuating movement, polished surfaces revealing the stones interior and the flow of the form. My work is invariably tactile, meant to be touched. Subjects may be figurative or abstract. I take inspiration from the natural world, representing simple organic shapes, form and movement. I aspire to create subtle statements, delighting in the interplay of relief and shadow.
