Thomas Genders

Festival: 2017

My recent works contain symbolism that is often redeployed from renowned historical works. ‘Quercus’ (2015) a large painting of an oak in the grounds Calke Abbey has within it many symbols and hidden figures and creatures. I have tried to hide these in a way that does not detract from the aesthetic but rewards the observant viewer. The symbolism is redeployed from ‘The Garden of Earthly Delights’ triptych by Hieronymus Bosch. This painting was a hit at Festivals last year. This year I have a new large painting of the Major oak in Sherwood Forest . I have also found 2 other majestic Trees; The Willesley Sweet Chestnut and the Much Marcle Yew I wish to build up a portfolio of paintings of the countries giants’ starting in the Midlands.
