I use old photographs which are part of my familial landscape as a starting point for my work.

These can range in formality from wedding pictures and school portraits to more intimate domestic snapshots. Even the recent past becomes quickly very distant and I want to take what are often footnotes in our domestic history and convey the importance that I personally attach to them.

I use oils and experiment with this medium to create patinas and textures to give the idea of time passing and a sense of nostalgia.
