Born in Manchester in 1948, the artist studied at Manchester School of Art and then B.A.(Hons) in Fine Art at Gloucestershire College of Art & Design. After moving to London she taught in the Secondary Comprehensive system for I.L.E.A and worked as Assistant Art Therapist at Southall Hospital. She moved to Derbyshire in 1975, to the small hamlet of Alsop-en-le-Dale in the White Peak, intending to stay for two years, but remaining there for 22 years. During this time she began teaching Drawing & Perception at the Universities of Derby, Loughborough, and Fine Art at Staffordshire from 1986. Appointed as a full-time Senior Lecturer in 1991, she was Course Leader for the Foundation Studies and Level Zero courses 2001 – 2008. Since 2008 she has been Associate Lecturer in Drawing for the B.A.(Hons) Fine Art, Year Zero, and the B.A.(Hons) Illustration, Graphics and Animation Courses at the University of Derby. She completed her doctoral studies in Fine Art & Philosophy in 2013.
She exhibited at the Royal Watercolour Society on Bankside throughout the 1980s, at Abbott Hall in Kendal in 1988, and had one-person exhibitions at the Angel Row Gallery in Nottingham, (1991) and the City Gallery in Leicester (1995). She worked with American artist Darren Kraft on a joint exhibition in New York in 2000 at the Real Gallery, and with the support of Phil Richards and the Millenium Wood Group in 2001 installed ‘Infinity,’ the loop of standing stones in Stoney Wood, Wirksworth, Derbyshire. She has shown regularly in the Wirksworth Festival since 1995, and served as a member of the Board and Chair of the Visual Arts Panel from 2008 – 2015. Her most recent exhibition of large-scale drawings, paintings and a series of smaller works, Drawn to the Edge was shown at the New Court Gallery in Repton, Derbyshire April –May earlier this year.
