My ceramic work is textile in spirit, often combining ceramic tiles with fabric and found objects. The semi -abstract panels refer to local landscape and the textile heritage of Wirksworth and its surrounding villages. I have recently been exploring new techniques for applying surface pattern, colour and texture to clay. Using both traditional and digital techniques I decorate the surface of my handmade tiles with a combination of my own drawings, textile samples and glazes or coloured slips. My new work uses local landscape as subject matter, in particular natural and manmade boundaries as a metaphor for human emotions .I am interested in exploring mark-making and relationships between positive and negative space through my work.
