Use collected plants, natural fibres and recycled papers to create your own unique artists books.
You will start by making decorated papers using mono-prints, direct contact plant prints and stamps, with
combinations of foraged plant materials and Cat’s own hand-made plant pigment printing inks. These decorated
papers will then be used to cover and illustrate your own books.
You will be able to make a simple folded pamphlet book and a stitched Japanese bound book.
What to bring?
Scrap papers, plant materials such as berries, grasses, leaves;
threads and small fabric scraps.

Catherine Lewis is an expert in textile dyeing and printing techniques; born and raised in South Wales, trained in textile design at Chelsea College of Art, with a Masters in Fine Art from Swansea University. She’s been refining and sharing her knowledge of textiles for over twenty years; now focussing on making things less harmful, less wasteful, longer lasting and more local. Cat creates her one-off textiles and prints by alchemical natural dye and print processes, using ancient shibori techniques, natural dyes and prints, transforming each textile into a wondrous physical memory of nature’s bounty. She works with other designers and artists to realise their natural dyeing wishes, as well as creating custom pieces for private clients.
