Wirksworth Festival puts families at its heart. The Trail Weekend, with over 150 artists in 70 different venues in the town, offers families the chance to see contemporary art in a fun and informal setting, including gardens, churches and private homes. The streets and courtyards are also bursting with pop up events including music, street theatre and food stalls.
Family Trail and Workshops
We have teamed up with Wirksworth Heritage Centre, who’ve designed a Wirksworth Family Trail so families can explore and discover many wonderful aspects of the town and its history. We also have plans to work with partners around town to host children and family focused activities over the Trail Weekend.
Gig on the Roof
The ‘Gig on the Roof’, takes place in the Market Place on the Sunday evening right at the end of the Trail Weekend, it’s the perfect chance for families and friends to get together, relax and listen to great live music in the open air as the sun goes down on the opening weekend of the Festival.
The Performance Programme & Community Celebration
The Performance Programme runs throughout the Festival and always offers a great range of family shows, check out the What’s On pages from the summer onwards for details.
The Festival culminates in our magnificent Community Celebration event, ending the Festival programme with a real splash of colour. We work with Learning Through Arts, involving the whole town; schools, dance, music and theatre groups to create and perform in this festival-favourite family event!
Wirksworth is an old town and getting about isn’t always easy, especially with buggies and young children, it is worthwhile taking a look at our Accessibility Page to help plan your visit.
